If you’ve had the pleasure of stopping by our Mt. Pleasant, SC store for a Saturday or Sunday demo, you’ve probably met Mario. He’s a New Jersey native, who now calls Charleston home and is a very talented member of our store team. Learn more about his love for classic Italian food and his passion for pastry below:

Q: What brought you to Kitchen & Company?
A: I was working for a national retailer selling major appliances for home kitchens in north Charleston, when I read an article in the Moultrie News about a kitchen store coming to Mount Pleasant. I love to cook, so I checked out Kitchen & Company’s website. I was so impressed and thought this would be a great place to work. Months later, I applied at a meet and greet with the store manager. Thankfully, he hired me as one of his assistant store managers – that was about 16 months ago. I love working for Kitchen & Company and could not ask for better coworkers!

Q: What is your favorite meal to cook?
A: In the kitchen, I enjoy cooking Italian food. Linguini with red clam sauce is one of my favorites with fresh clams from Bulls Bay in Awendaw, SC. Outside on the Kamado Joe, I love to cook chicken wings and pizza.

Q: What is your favorite food to eat?
A: Simple, pork fried rice.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself that not many people would know?
A: While I was working as a pastry chef in Atlantic City, NJ, I drove to Washington, DC. for seven weekends to take a course with the pastry chef at the White House, Roland Mesnier, in the art of pulled and blown sugar decorations. I was lucky enough to get a personal tour of the White House and its kitchen.

Q: If you could have any person over for dinner, who would it be and what would you cook for them?
A: Being born and raised in New Jersey, my wife and I are very big Bruce Springsteen fans. I would have him over for a cookout with slow-smoked applewood ribs, wings, pasta salad, and a cold beer. For dessert, I would make my grandmother’s Italian cheesecake.

If you’re ever in the Charleston area, we hope you’ll stop by to see Mario and his coworkers!
