Coworker Corner: Laura K. 4

Laura K. is the friendly – and funny – manager at our Lancaster Reading China & Glass store! Learn a little more about her below.

Q: Tell us your Reading China & Glass story.
A: One source of pride for me is my employee number. It’s 1000. This means I was assigned the first employee number in the company nearly 20 years ago! Crazy, right? I started my career with this company as the glassware department head in one of our other markets. From day one, I was told that if I worked hard and with integrity, my options in the company were limitless. I’m now running my own store in beautiful Lancaster, PA and glassware is still my favorite department in the store.

Q: What is your favorite food to cook?
A: Soup or stews. Really anything that requires a knife and my dutch oven. Chili and spicy chicken corn chowder are my specialities.

Q: What is your favorite tool in the kitchen?
A: It’s a toss up between my Wusthof Santoku and my Chopstir.

Q: What is a fun fact no one would typically know about you?
A: This question threw me. Honestly, I’m an open book. Just ask anybody that knows me. I love the ID Discovery channel and all puns, especially if they are really bad. Oh yea, I can play Bocci like a pro. Does that count?

Q: If you could have any person over for dinner, who would it be and what would you cook for them?
A: Easier question. The answer will always be my family. I am the luckiest person in the world. My parents are quite simply the two best people I know. When they visit, along with my two brothers and their families, it’s always meatballs and rigatoni. Always.

Q: Tell us about your favorite guest interaction
A: Awe, after all this time, I can’t pick just one. I have a customer that hangs outside with me when I grill. He brings me handmade smoked cheese from his own grill. I have another lady that will bring me “treats” to share with the staff when she buys a new gadget or appliance. My waistline doesn’t need the treats, but a gift from one kitchen to another also feeds the heart. I have met the most wonderful people over the years. I’m truly blessed.

To meet this lovely lady and her crew, visit our Lancaster, PA store. Store hours and locations can be found here!

I have visited the store in Lancaster many times, starting in 1995. I would yearly visit a friend who lives in the DC area. We would take a road trip from her house to Lancaster to shop at the outlets. We would spend hours in The Reading China and Glass store, looking at all the merchandise. I was attracted to the utensils that are so handy, but often hard to find – various peelers, unique storage containers, and lots of other things to make the life of cooks and homemakers a little easier. The selection of such things occupied an entire wall of the store. Over the years I purchased utensils, containers, cleaning products, linens, home accent items and other hard to find items for my home. Love that place!

Hello my wife and I have had direct interactions with Laura K. and I will tell you if I was starting a business Laura is the first person I would want to recruit! She is always helpful, always has a minute to answer a question and always is willing to demonstrate a product. We do most if not all of our kitchen supply shopping at Reading China and Glass and this is due in no small part to Laura. She has guided us to many interesting and successful purchases and always with a smile. She is a beautiful Lady and we wish her all the best and thank her for all the Help!
