Coworker Corner: Jeff W.

Have you met Jeff W. at our Christiana, DE store? He’s been with Kitchen & Company for three years now and he’s got quite a few stories to tell. While he’d be perfectly happy to chat about history or his days as a volunteer firefighter, he’d also love to share with you his favorite recipes from Italian to Middle Eastern to backyard BBQ. Learn a bit more about him below:

Q: Tell us your Kitchen & Company story.
A: After a long career in purchasing for Scott Paper Company, my first job in retail was as a store manager for Borders Books, and then in management at Trader Joe’s in Wilmington. When the opportunity arose to manage our store in Christiana, DE, I jumped at the chance. I have been with Kitchen & Company now for the last for 3 1/2 years.

Q: What is your favorite food to cook?
A: It’s a toss up between smoked salmon on a cedar plank or pasta with artichokes, garlic, and diced tomatoes from my garden.

Q: What is your favorite food to eat?
A: Middle Eastern food, including stuffed grape leaves, kabobs, baba ghanoush, tabouleh, falafel, hummus and, of course, baklava. That is, when crabs aren’t in season!

Q: What is a fun fact no one would typically know about you?
A: I was a volunteer firefighter/EMT for many years. At 17, I was the youngest EMT in Pennsylvania and helped deliver a baby in the back of an ambulance.

Q: If you could have any person over for dinner, who would it be and what would you cook for them?
A: Winston Churchill. A remarkable man who changed the course of history in WWII. As Churchill is British, the menu would have to be Yorkshire pudding, roast beef, asparagus, roast potato, and Cherries Jubilee for dessert. Afterward, we would share a bottle of tawny port and smoke Cuban cigars.

We hope you’ll have an opportunity to meet Jeff in person on your next visit to Kitchen & Company in Christiana, DE!
