Your Valentine’s Beer Guide

Finalizing your Valentine’s Day menu? Why not pair with beer? With so many varieties on the market today — sweet, crisp, spicy, even funky flavors — you may find more flexibility by pairing your meal with beer rather than wine. Our Asheville, North Carolina and Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina store both feature Vintopia — a section of our store stocked with local craft beers & wines to help complete your entertaining needs!

Beer lovers, here are some of our favorite pairings you should consider for your Valentine’s Day (or any day, really!).

Pair with Seafood

Westbrook Gose (4% ABV, South Carolina)

Westbrook Gose (4% ABV, South Carolina) paired with oysters

We love this Westbrook Gose (pronounced like “rose” plus “uh”) for pairing with seafood like oysters. A Gose style beer is a sour and slightly salty ale with floral notes like coriander and fruity notes like apricot – perfect for pairing with slightly sweet and salty oysters.
This Gose, while not always available due to it’s rotating schedule, is currently available at both Vintopia locations.

Pair with Spicy

Holy City Overly Friendly IPA (6.9% ABV, South Carolina) paired with pasta arrabbiata

Holy City Overly Friendly IPA (6.9% ABV, South Carolina) paired with pasta arrabbiata

If you’re serving up something spicy, like pasta arrabbiata (it literally means “angry” in Italian), we’d recommend the Holy City Overly Friendly IPA. The almost overwhelming hops and citrus notes will cut through any amount of spice – the spicier, the better. The name itself is a good fit for Valentine’s Day too.

Pair with Key Lime Pie

Palmetto Pale Ale (5.8% ABV, South Carolina)

Palmetto Pale Ale (5.8% ABV, South Carolina) paired with Key Lime pie.

A classic Southern dessert, deserves a classic Southern beer. Pair your citrusy Key Lime pie with the Palmetto Pale Ale for a totally refreshing after-dinner treat. Palmetto Brewing Company calls this a “go to” beer – and we agree. It’s hoppy nose is balanced by delicate malts, a great compliment to a citrusy dessert.
