Statement from Eric Brinsfield, owner, Calvert Retail.
On Tuesday, August 23rd, Calvert Retail acquired specific assets of North Carolina-based Southern Season stores.
The acquisition includes all of the intellectual property, the trade names and website as well as the Chapel Hill flagship store. The Taste of Southern Season stores in Raleigh and Asheville, North Carolina, and Charleston, South Carolina, will close.
“It was only two weeks ago that our company understood the sale was possible,” Calvert Retail Owner Eric Brinsfield says of the quick transaction. “Right now, we are looking forward to learning and understanding everything that makes Southern Season so special in this market.”
Brinsfield adds that Southern Season’s well-known name attracted him to the bankruptcy sale.
“As a company, we have always admired Southern Season as a leading brand. We were monitoring the situation closely and hoping to get involved with such a great legacy,” he says. “A large percentage of what Southern Season sells is directly in line with what our stores sell so the synergy is really going to be incredible. I’m honored to be associated with an institution that I have admired from a business aspect for many, many years. We are excited about having a presence in Chapel Hill.”
Brinsfield says that he does not have immediate plans for making changes at the Chapel Hill location. “The store is profitable and successful, so we want to build on that foundation. Right now our goal is to take the best care of our guests in Chapel Hill, as well as our new co-workers there.”
